Understanding x-ray.
Dental X-rays let us see the parts of your teeth and jaw that are hidden from view, such as decay between teeth, the roots, surrounding bone, and developing wisdom teeth.
We use digital imaging, including panoramic OPG scans that capture your whole jaw in one picture, so we can diagnose accurately rather than guessing at what lies beneath.
Digital X-rays use a very low dose of radiation and appear on screen in seconds, which means less waiting and a clearer picture for you to see too. They are an important step when planning treatments like implants, root canals, or extractions, helping us understand your teeth fully before we recommend anything.
Seeing clearly, before we plan.
Low-dose digital and panoramic imaging shows us what is happening beneath the surface — so every treatment is planned on evidence, not guesswork.

What to expect, step by step.
Quick Assessment
We discuss your symptoms and decide which type of image will give us the clearest view of the area we need to check.
Prepare You
You may wear a protective apron, and we ask you to remove glasses or jewellery that could show up on the image.
Capture the Image
You hold still for a few seconds while the digital sensor or panoramic scanner records the picture quickly and painlessly.
Review Together
The image appears on screen almost instantly, and we talk you through what we see and what it means for you.
X-Ray, answered.
Yes. Digital X-rays use a very low dose of radiation, far less than older film systems, and we only take the images we genuinely need.
An OPG is a single wide image that captures all your teeth, both jaws, and the surrounding bone at once. It is ideal for planning implants and assessing wisdom teeth.
Only a few minutes. A panoramic scan takes seconds, and the image is ready on screen almost immediately for us to review with you.
No. We only recommend X-rays when they will genuinely help your diagnosis or treatment planning, based on your individual needs.
Please let us know if you are or might be pregnant. We usually postpone non-urgent X-rays, and take extra precautions when imaging is truly necessary.
