What it is

Understanding bridge.

A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring a replacement tooth to the healthy teeth on either side of the gap.

The neighbouring teeth are fitted with crowns that support the new tooth in the middle, quite literally bridging the space. Because it is fixed in place, a bridge stays put and does not need to be removed for cleaning like a denture.

A bridge restores your bite, stops the surrounding teeth from drifting into the gap, and fills out your smile so it looks complete again. We colour-match the porcelain to your natural teeth for a seamless result. Where the neighbouring teeth are not suitable as anchors, an implant-supported bridge can be an option, and we will talk you through what fits your situation.

The A M Dental difference

Closing the gap, without surgery.

A bridge restores a missing tooth by anchoring to the healthy teeth beside it — a fixed, natural-looking solution that lets you eat and smile with confidence.

The process

What to expect, step by step.

01

Consultation

We assess the gap and the teeth around it, take any needed X-rays, and discuss whether a bridge is the right choice for you.

02

Prepare Anchors

The supporting teeth on each side are gently shaped so they can hold the crowns that anchor your new bridge.

03

Impressions

We take precise impressions so your bridge is made to fit the gap exactly and match your surrounding teeth in colour.

04

Temporary Bridge

A temporary bridge protects the prepared teeth and keeps you comfortable while your custom bridge is being crafted.

05

Fit and Bond

At your next visit we check the fit and appearance, then bond the finished bridge firmly into place and adjust your bite.

Questions

Bridge, answered.

No. Unlike a denture, a bridge is fixed permanently in place and does not come out, so it feels much like your own teeth.

You clean around and beneath the bridge using special floss or a small interdental brush. We will show you a simple technique to keep it healthy.

With good cleaning and regular check-ups, a bridge can last many years. Keeping the supporting teeth and gums healthy is key to a long life.

Yes. The replacement tooth is made from porcelain matched to your own teeth, so the finished bridge blends in and looks natural when you smile.

It depends on your teeth, bone, and preferences. A bridge is quicker and uses neighbouring teeth as support, while an implant stands alone. We will help you decide.
